Just the music. Loud enough to drown no conversation, but not too loud that you can't hear yourself.
The dream comes ture. My hushand wanted to visit here long long time ago and we did it. It was really good service, she told us aboit the history and recommend restaurants nearby. Sadly I couldnt find the one I loved(It was seasonal beer), I tried that last year Hopyard in PEI. I was for the first time in Halifax.
Great beers, no deposit on growlers or snarlers
Everything was going well. Then the male owner came to our table while our oysters were being placed down and ate two of our oysters. Yes. Just took two oysters from our plate and ate them and walked away. It was the most bizarre experience. His wife gave us our money back which was a nice gesture, but the man delivered no apology, explanation, or anything. I’m still confused? I never, never complain or leave reviews, but this was by far and away the most weird and awful thing that has happened to me at a restaurant. If I could give zero stars, I would. I won’t be back.
When people describe this as a hole-in-the-wall, they mean that very literally - it's one long room, open to the air at the front end. I went here because I was recommended the Hellevator Bock by a friend, and to my enjoyment, it was lovely.Only came by to fill up a growler, but they made it easy for me. They allowed me to taste the beer before filling so I knew what I was getting into.I plan to return for a sit-down visit some time soon, I can't wait to go back! Would recommend this place to beer nerds, small business supporters, or anyone who wants a great beer in the North End.
My go-to growler bar. Get a refill every couple days, cool group of folks working, super chill vibes. What else would you expect?Exile on north. Can’t beat it.
I think probably my favourite brewery in Halifax, has a lot of character and really good beers.
Amazing beer. Great music and you can bring in some fried chicken from next door. They are opinionated and critical of other beers and breweries, but their beer backs up their words. Are you an IPA lover and beer snob? Do not miss out.
A grungy, roll-up door local brewery with a great vibe. This is what a truly authentic hole-in-the-wall should look and feel like. No polish here; it’s all about the beer. Stumbled across this little gem when another local brewery had shut down for a private event. Teeming with locals that will gladly guide you through the small but varied beer menu, this place is definitely worth a visit.
Despite the banner inside saying "This Place Sucks," we had some great beer and friendly service! Punk rock vibes all around, pretty small place but the selection was great. Had a Double Orange Ale, Exile on North Street, Hellevator, and Flat Black Jesus. Highly recommend the first three!
Best beer in NS, probably Canada, maybe the world. Greg Nash is a genius. Only wish he had a bigger canning facility. If you like craft beer, there are none better.
Amazing beer in a nice and trendy place and area. Nice music and staff as well.
Good beer. Cozy tasting room
Amazing beer, for those who like beer (coors light is NOT beer, if you think it is, you don't belong here). Locally owned and brewed, a hidden gem. The Sour Mother Fu*ker is one of my favourites. The Flat Black Jesus Stout is amazing too. So smooth on tap. If you like hoppy, delicious beer this is a must see/drink in Halifax. Great pub called Charm School onsite. They also sell/ fill growlers. Hands down, best craft beer (if you like actual beer) in Halifax.
Excellent little brewery with good tunes. Can't beat it
Great beer in a small establishment. Each beer was excellent. Cool decor and layout.
The owner can be a curmudgeon but he is a pretty good dude. The beer is great and the staff that work here are fantastic folks who make you feel at home. They will sticker your growler if it's from another spot, you learn to deal with it.
At the end of the day, haters are gonna hate. Unfiltered is a bit like marmite. You love it or you hate it. I am on the strong love game. The 12 years to zion DIPA is just outstanding. Not massively a hoppy beer fan but im so down for this. Just remember this comes with strong attitude. But they aint that bad. Music taste has been on point consistently too
Definitely one of the best brewery in Nova Scotia.
Great tasting beer. This place knows how to make a delicious beer.
Quiet place with great brews. Try the Hoppy Fingers if you like an IPA and the Flat Black Jesus if you like a nice stout. Cozy and delicious.
A nice little bar. If you like server sass this is the place for you. One pokestop in reach and a gym just around the corner.
Super cozy atmosphere, complimented by the relaxing music in the background. Tried the IPA, it was a solid choice. Staff seemed to know certain customers very well. Prices are higher than other bars in the area, but worth it for the quality of the product and the setting.
Great little bar with some snacks at a really reasonable price. Must love IPAs because its their specialty. Cheers!
If you are looking for a game changing IPA, this place will have many contenders. Small space makes it great for intimate hangs with your pals. There are some games available to play at your table, and always great tunes playing. This place seriously has some of the best beer in town, check out the Exile on North or DOA, both are personal faves from this independent craft brewery.
These guys aren't here to sell you beer. They're here to make beer that you want to buy. Loved the stout.
Great little craft brewery, everything was good and well done. Wish the brewmaster would spill the beans a bit on ingredients, but I guess mystery is nice too.
Great craft brews, especially their Schwarzbier "play with fire" - super smokey, and their IPA flagship Exile on North. Charm School Pub" plays , hands down, some of the best tunes in town, for a certain vintage of geezer who never minds the bollocks or rocking the Casbah.
I parked here when it was closed so I could grab an order of coffees, the parking lot was empty, and in the ten minutes of doing so they put a boot on my car. I used to like this cozy place, but I will happily go elsewhere. This type of aggressive parking enforcement is completely unnecessary, un-neighbourly, and plain old rude.
We stopped at a few breweries on our trip to Halifax and this was our favourite! They offer taste testers and as someone who is fairly new to craft beer I appreciated that! I wish this was sold in NSLC here in NS!!
The best beer in town and always laid back. Love coming here.
Awesome spot. Great brews. Killer tunes
The bar/tap room is nice and has a quiet atmosphere with comfortable seating. The Unfiltered beer itself is good; I find most of the varieties on the bitter- or hoppy-tasting end of the spectrum, so if you like those flavour profiles you'll love them! They do carry a cider though (when I was there it was Chainyard's Intrepid) if the beer isn't your style. They don't serve meals, but they do have some bar-snacks/light fare. Overall, it's a really cool corner of Halifax's beer scene to check out :)
One of the best craft beers in town you won't be disappointed!
Great if somewhat small tasting room. Hellevator is a must-try beer here. The small size makes the whole place a lot more personal of an experience. The staff seemed to know several of the patrons' names, and the music selection was changed to match the mood of the audience. It was a really fun experience and is on my "revisit" list for next time I'm in Halifax.
Has an unfriendly hipster vibe. Kind of feels like a local bar that is unwelcoming to newcomers. Regardless, the beer is damn good.
I like this place, but it's not for the faint of heart. (I think that might be on their website). But the beer is probably some of the best in the city and it's a pretty good atmosphere. Just don't go expecting a place to watch a game on the tv or to work on a paper.
Amazing beer. Simply the best! Quality is second to none!
Nice atmosphere and good drinks!
So edgy! Perhaps the faux attitude would be endearing if the beer was good, but it's mediocre at best. More effort into brewing and less into being unpleasant.
Great IPAs and stouts. Friendly, knowledgeable staff.
